IWHACC - about us

The cricket club’s logo is based on the mythical Caladrius Bird which has powers of healing by drawing sickness into itself. Then flying towards the sun where the disease is burned up and destroyed. The Isle of Wight is portrayed as a shield with anchors watched over by 2 unicorns with the Caladruis Birds surrounding the sun.
The Club was formed some 35 years ago from just a few matches at the beginning to nowadays an average of 25 matches a summer. The driving force in the early years were Dr Ted Mucklow and Dr David Hide, both now sadly gone but their spirits remain and has seen the club grow to establish a presence in the Island Cricket scene.
Over the last 20 years the Health Associates has seen 60 different players turnout for the team. Whilst a good number are from the Isle of Wight we have welcomed players from Bangladesh, Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan and Jamaica and Sri Lanka.

Home matches are held at the old Whitecroft Hospital Sports Ground, this was maintained by the NHS until the hospital closed in 1996 and as a result the ground came up for sale. So the opportunity was pursued and funding secured to purchase the sports ground in 1997.

Today the Health Associates CC enjoys a sound reputation of play and has achieved a good standard of success notably winning the Newclose Corporate Cup in 2010. Tours to Dorset and the welcoming of touring sides over the years have underscored the regular play throughout the summer months. Not to forget the Island Winter League where the team in this current season 2016/2017 has seen them topping the league, long may it continue!
